Researching and adding to the Roll of Honour, there are dark moments, and there have been many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today looking through my files I found this, I wrote in one of those dark moments. Spent some time re-vamping it and then shared it with the FEPOW Family Facebook Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those who died and have ‘No Known Grave’ are remembered on the Singapore Memorial, this was for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why am I still lying here?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beneath this canopy of green<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With an unknown bird chorus above my head,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although many years have faded, I recall the promise made<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Did my mates forget, or too lie in rest<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After placing this makeshift cross upon my bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nestled against my body<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lie reminders of my passed,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Slipped from the pocket where they were kept,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Golden memories of a farewell wave,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A new born cradled in her arms,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tiny greeting hand I have never met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lying within a corner a silver Christmas joey<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Almost new, a horseshoe from our wedding cake,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A fading image of my loved ones, with a tear, slightly grown,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Loving, silver bow of ribbon, from a sender, unknown<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All locked in are my treasures, with an old rusting key<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this unknown ground in which they were sown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Am I forgotten ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Did I die in vain ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How many mates have made this soil their bed ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Will we be together, someday to meet again ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sharing memories of times, joyfully said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
