Spent the morning trying to help Hazel Stringer with her family tree. Dominic escaping Singapore in Daisy which sailed from Singapore with six Scottish civilians, a petty officer and five ratings, commanded by Captain Walmsley. Daisy made it to the mouth of the Djambi River in Sumatra. Then the complement of the Daisy continued in P10 across Sumatra to the port of Emmerhaven and were evacuated.
Added another newspaper clipping:- ‘A hate that’s hard to forget’.
This one means a lot as Maurice, who features in the 1995 article was a good friend.

Maurice, Reg, Arthur and many more FEPOWs who were members of the FEPOW Community helped me form a group which supported FEPOW Day to be held on August 15th. After 500 names were collected on a poll to the government, it was refused as it clashed with VJ Day. We still hold the day as FEPOW Day as it is now recognized by almost all FEPOW Associations and groups. This is the day of liberation and the day the FEPOWs could look back in remembrance of their lost mates. FEPOW Day and FEPOW family pins are available from http://www.fepow-day.org .
