Remarks:-

William Force:- 2/2nd Pioneers made up of 884 men mainly 2/2 Pioneer Battalion and sailors of the Cruiser HMAS Perth, became part of 3 Group, moved to Tanyin 35 kilo camp first and were under the command of Lt-Col. John William, they became known as William Force. The Japaneses Camp Commandant Lt Yama was one of more tolerant Japanese Officers. The Medical Officer was Ear Nose & Throat Specialist Lt Col Eadie.

Black Force:- 610 Australians, 190 Americans and 111 Dutch arrived at Thanbyuzayat oon the 30th October and were moved to 40 kilo Camp (Beke Taung, under command of Lt-Col. Chris Black. The medical officers were Australian Captain John Higgins and Dutchman Dr Hekking. In November water supply had failed and they moved to 26 kilo camp joining Ramsay Force. The Padre Keith Matherson from HMAS Perth arrived and provided help for the sick.
