Remarks:-

Known as “5 Group 1”

On January 7th, 456 American and 385 Australians under Lt-Col. Tharp were trucked to Singapore Railway Station and put on a train to Penang.

First stop was Kuala Lumpur for a rice and stew meal, then onto Ipoh for water, and then Penang, a two day trip

These were PoWs from Java Parties 3, 4, 5A, 5B, 5C trained to Kuala Lumpur to be shipped in the Moji Maru from Penang in Convoy S-23 to Burma.
